Day 8 - Near Boulleret to Nevers (46 miles)

All things considered I slept well last night and was up early to pack and get on the road to reach Nevers and the end of Stage 1 of the EV6. It was another morning of largely cycling the levee, the cycle path on top generally stretching off into the distance before me and curving out of sight. Sometimes I was by the river, sometimes not. Sometimes I was in the shade of trees, sometimes not. The towns and villages may have been different but the views were similar to previous days. Being on the south bank, all the while on my right was the massive, flat expanse of the levee-protected flood plain, now turned over to farming with fields of bright green crops and yellow rapeseed receding far into the distance.

A late stretch on canal, with the occasional associated industrial presence - mainly gravel digging - saw me to within a few miles of my accommodation. It was then off route and cross country under the hot afternoon sun to the outskirts of Nevers (the route actually by passes the town) where I have a decent bed for the night and plenty of WiFi and electricity to allow me to plan the detail of Stage 2.
