The EV6 route is broken down into a number of stages, each of which has a brief description on the website telling you a little of what to expect for that part of the route. As they give a sense of the journey, I am going to paraphrase them in the blog prior to me starting each stage.
The first stage follows the Loire and includes the cities of Nantes, Angers, Tours and Orleans. In this stage the Loire is wild in parts. The route passes famous vineyards along the river's banks, historic mariners’ towns and the Loire-Anjou-Tourane Nature Reserve. In the Anjou area there are river islands and vine covered slopes which cover subterranean caves in which mushrooms are often cultivated. Between Angers and Orléans is the most iconographic part of the Loire valley: the kings’ castles valley (a UNESCO World heritage site). The castles showcase the majestic lifestyle of the aristocracy at the time they were constructed. There are also remnants of the Roman Empire to be seen along the route.
My estimate is that, with stops, this section should take me just over week.
